There are many different positions and variations of positions. Experiment and find out what works best for you and your baby. Some babies like to be up more and some like to be more tucked in. Parents also prefer to wear their babies in different positions and to tie the straps differently. If you have a baby that likes looking out at the world you can have them forward facing with their legs tucked in cross-legged and the ties around their chest. To make the body of the carrier shorter to allow baby to sit up higher roll the bottom of the carrier to shorten. There are many ways of using your Mei Tai and with a little practice you can easily master them all!
I also have available the instructional video Tummy 2 Tummy that has detailed, easy to follow instruction on using a Mei Tai as well as a pouch, ring sling and simple peice of cloth. This is a great video and I highly suggest to everyone, especially those of you new to babywearing.

Make sure whatever position you choose that you are aware of your baby at all times. You need to be responsible for your baby while wearing them and you are responsible for keeping them safe. When getting baby in the carrier be sure to hold onto baby at all times until carrier is tied securely. Take extra care when lifting, bending, going around corners or going near a stove or heater. Check your baby often. If you pass a mirror or window take a peak and make sure they are still in securely. Check your carrier often for signs of wear. Make sure you tie a square knot tightly. Newborns should always have the straps tied around their back to help support them.
